A Bit About You - our Perklers!

Monday, October 19th, 2009

Hi everyone,

been a while (I think I say that every time…).

Our launch has gone really well and we are building a great community of people who love perks! Thought you might like to know a little bit about yourselves:

  • 68% of you are female
  • The average age of the female Perkler is 40
  • The average age of the male Perkler is 43
  • On average you have 15 loyalty memberships in your virtual wallets

Our top 10 cities that site visitors come from are:

  1. Sydney
  2. Melbourne
  3. Brisbane
  4. Canberra
  5. Perth
  6. Adelaide
  7. Hobart
  8. Cranbourne
  9. Nerang
  10. Richmond

So there you go - it’s early days but there are plenty of you around (and we look forward to plenty more).

Don’t forget- every new member who joins before the end of October we are giving away a free Yoga Pass from our friends at yogapass.com.au!

More soon,

Justin

Location, Location, Location.

We here at Perkistan know it’s all about location - and not just because our building is nestled between two real estate agencies.

One of the cool things about Perkler is its ability to find relevant perks based on your location. We’re working on some pretty cool location-based stuff, and today I had a chance to play with a new Mozilla plugin called Geode

Geode is an extension for Firefox that figures out where in the world you are. Perkler checks if a browser has Geode installed, and if so, asks for that location info. If you (the user) allows it, Perkler will use this information when doing perk searches, and will filter the results to suit.

Yes, so it’s exactly the same as using the location field - just a bit more hands off.

At this stage this was just an experiment to see the technology in action. Hopefully we’ll see something similar in mobile browsers soon - i.e. Opera and WebKit (Android, iPhone, Symbian) - that’s when this is going to get interesting.
